Big Time Rush's Carlos Pena took to Twitter today to express his frustration about the
American Music Awards nominations that were announced earlier today (October 9).
"Dear AMAs: Thank you for nominating the SAME people over and over each year. You should take a deeper look at artists who work just as hard," Carlos tweeted.
Carlos went on to reply to a few fans who shared the same opinion as him:
"It must be because we have a "nickelodeon show" and were not "cool" ... ohh the world we live in," he told one fan.
"Its all about who is in the public eye..but how do u get in the public eye if no ever gives you the time of day..." he told another.
To be fair, the American Music Awards nominations are based on sales, airplay, activity on social networks, and video viewing, with sales and airplay playing the bigger role. Radio airplay is something Big Time Rush has struggled with since releasing their first single "Boyfriend" to radio in 2011. Since then the band has only had two other radio singles, "Music Sounds Better With U" and "Windows Down," none of which made a huge impact on the Mediabase charts. The highest peaking song was "Music Sounds Better With U" which reached the top 25.
But Carlos does bring up a great point though, about the same people being nominated for all awards, but could that be the fault of the American public for choosing to continue submerge themselves with the same artists? The artists that are nominated are the artists that are always at the top of iTunes and always on the top of radio stations' playlists. Just a thought.
This is not the first time this year a artist has lashed out against an awards show, you may remember Tom from The Wanted was not happy with the MTV EMA's after being snubbed in the nominations.
"I think it's bulls**t that we weren't nominated for an EMA this year!!!" he tweeted. Later adding:
"Maybe next year x"If you're interested, voting is now open for the American Music Awards and the show takes place live on Sunday, November 18 on ABC.
