The teams are filling up and the coaches became a bit more strict on what they’re looking for as the blind auditions continued on The Voice on Tuesday night (September 30). By the end of the night, each coach would only have two spots left on their team.
The night featured Pharrell being very happy & positive and trying to get a country singer away from Blake as well as someone from last season that got no turns returning to the show to give it another shot.
Here’s who made a team in the fourth round of season 7 hopefuls.
Who: Katriz Trinidad
Song: “At Last”
Coaches: Blake, Gwen, Pharrell
Thoughts: She’s only 15 years old and had voice beyond her years that had Pharrell on his feet throughout the performance. He was left speechless saying that he’s been dreaming for an artist like her all his career for his label and even got on his knees begging her. Blake added that she was born to be a star saying she’s so different and deserves to win the show. While Gwen said she’s almost a perfect singer where she hits every note perfectly but noted that maybe a more relaxed performance would be even better. It really was no competition, she picked Pharrell.
Who: Ethan Butler
Song: “Beneath Your Beautiful”
Coaches: Adam, Blake
Thoughts: Ethan did a really unique take on one of my personal favorite songs, “Beneath Your Beautiful.” Adam kept his emotions hidden until it was over and he loved every moment. He complimented him on singing and playing guitar at the same time calling him soulful and smooth. Blake could tell he’s a full musician and that he’s more than ready for the competition. Before coming on stage he said he’d like to go with Blake, but he decided to go with Adam instead.
Who: Tanner Linford
Song: “When You Say Nothing At All”
Thoughts: After getting no turns while auditioning last season this 17 year old was on a mission to succeed. And Blake waited til the very last minute to turn around. Adam said the improvement was noteworthy and was so proud of him. Both Gwen and Pharrell thought it was a girl singing but that’s not a bad thing – they loved the emotion. Blake thought he did a great job with great control.
Who: Jean Kelley
Song: “Already Gone”
Coaches: Gwen, Blake
Thoughts: Blake could tell she was a “for real singer” and Gwen could hear similarities in their voices even though they both have their own style. Blake pretty much gave up when Gwen was listing off the similarities but added that he could help take her far in the show. It was pretty much obvious she would go with Gwen.
Who: Chris Jamison
Coaches: All 4
Thoughts: 20 year old Chris had Pharrell & Blake on their feet throughout the performance with his great voice and high notes. Adam immediately connected with his musical influences and he loved the performance and his voice and wants to help him take it to the next level. Gwen waited til the last minute but wants a smooth, soul singer like him and wants more guys on her team. She’d like a more signature sound out of him. Pharrell could tell he got lost in the moment and let it go and he did great and wants to spend time figuring out what he wants. Blake said he recognized what the mission was and succeeded in it. He decided to go with Adam.
Who: Craig Wayne Boyd
Song: “The Whiskey Ain’t Working”
Coaches: Blake, Pharrell
Thoughts: Pharrell said he doesn’t know the song but he heard some ad-libs in there that really got his attention and he loved that. He loved what he did with the song. Blake thought he picked the perfect song and brings a good edge to country to music. When you get as country as Craig is, there’s no competition – it’s Team Blake.
Who: Toia Jones
Song: “One and Only”
Coaches: Pharrell, Adam
Thoughts: Pharrell could tell she was singing from the heart and did a good job “painting her canvas” and promises that he will help her lift herself. He felt someone who was singing “with their life, for their life.” Adam loved her really high note that he feels will make the show better saying that there’s nobody like her style on his team whereas on Pharrell’s team there is. She decided to go with Pharrell.
Who: Amanda Lee Peers
Song: “Put The Gun Down”
Thoughts: Gwen called her amazing and loved the tone of her voice along with her stage presence. She added that she has a signature sound and can’t wait to work with her. Pharrell said he got caught up in listening to her voice while Adam added that her and Gwen are made for each other.
A quick segment would show that Gwen also landed Gianna Salvato, Adam beat-out Gwen for Rebekah Samarin, while Blake landed Grand Ganzer.
Who: Jonathan Wyndham
Song: “Say Something”
Coaches: All 4
Thoughts: Gwen said he just kept getting stronger and stronger throughout the performance and thinks it would be very fun to work together with his emotion and working out the nerves. Adam loved the delicate volubility to his voice and wants to hear less nerves & more volubility and wants to get that from him as his coach. Pharrell said he made the song his own and should be proud. Blake realized he was screwed right away but said how country music is about stories and with that song it really came out like that with the way he sang the lyrics. He went with the man he grew up listening to, Adam.
And there you have it – night four of the blind auditions! Here’s how the teams are shaping up so far, the new members are in italics. Only 2 spots left each team going into next week.
