The Voice battle round came to an end on Tuesday night (October 21). And with Gwen as the final coach with a steal left the stakes were extra high for the contestants throughout the night. The night also saw one contestant missing a rehearsal session for the first time ever because of illness.
Check out the battles of the night.
Contestants: (Team Pharrell) Brittany Butler vs. Ricky Manning
Song: “On Broadway”
Thoughts: Gwen loved how both of them have such great and powerful personalities on stage. Adam felt it was on par with what Brittany has done before but Ricky showed the most improvement and did a lot to win the battle in his opinion – Blake agreed because of his “let it fly” approach to the song. Pharrell complimented both of them and had a tough time deciding a winner.
Winner: Ricky Manning
Contestants: (Team Blake) Kensington Moore vs. Reagan James
Thoughts: After one of them missed a rehearsal session because of sickness, the battle went on as planned and it was a good one. Gwen said that Reagan’s voice was even better than she remembered and Kensington really impressed her too – Adam added that she came out there looking like a real popstar. Adam called it a draw and wanted to see in Blake in pain while deciding. Blake was proud that they each raised to the occasion and went with his got when declaring the winner.
Winner: Reagan James
A quick recap showed that Blake also decided to keep Allison Bray over Fernanda Bosch, while Gwen kept Anita Antoinette over Mayra Alvarez, and Bryana Salaz was victorious over Gianna Salvato on Gwen’s team as well.
Contestants: (Team Adam) Beth Spangler vs. Mia Pforrman
Song: “I Turn To You”
Thoughts: Blake described it as two divas up there singing their hearts out. Pharrell called it a good pairing and see’s so much potential in them. Gwen felt the song was more suited for Mia but Beth continued to surprise her throughout but went with Mia overall. Adam said Mia really delivered while Beth had some awesome moments and had a really hard time deciding the winner.
Winner: Mia Pforrman
After Beth said her goodbye speech, Gwen pressed her steal button as soon as she was hugging her.
And that wraps up the battle rounds. Here’s where the teams stand going into the knockouts – a (*) indicates a stolen contestant while italics represent newly added contestants. With the exception of Gwen’s steals, the majority of steals this season are from Team Pharrell and Team Gwen – it’ll be interesting to see if any of those survive the knockouts, which in past seasons has been the end of the road for most contestants saved in the battles.
