The Knockouts wrapped up on The Voice on Monday night (November 3) where the coaches were once again joined by Taylor Swift, who has done a hell of a job mentoring the contestants this round. The night saw some powerhouse vocalists compete up against each other and by the end of the night each coach would have their five members that they will be taking with them to the live playoffs.
Here’s a look at the knockout battle pairings for Monday night.
Contestants: (Team Blake) Allison Bray vs. Taylor Brashears
Songs: “Sin Wagon” (Allison) – “Landslide” (Taylor)
Thoughts: Pharrell thought both of them were great and felt there’s two different stories there and thinks it’s a matter of what Blake needs on his team. Gwen though Allison needs to bring in the power notes a bit because it sounded “shouty” at the end but it was awesome and the tone was great but she went with Taylor for her beautiful voice. Adam said Allison blew him away with a song he never knew and all her improvement. Blake loved Taylor’s athetic country sound while Allison can hit power notes and also commented on Gwen’s shouting comment and agreed it was there.
Winner: Taylor Brashears
Contestants: (Team Gwen) Ryan Sill vs. Beth Spangler
Songs: “Miss Independent” (Ryan) – “Two Little To Late” (Beth)
Thoughts: Beth’s former coach Adam said he loved her song choice and she did great while Ryan is one of his favorites and loved his ease and tone and said he won it. Blake called it a “dead tie” but jokingly said that he’d whether look at Ryan. Pharrell heard country-pop in Beth and said it’s a matter of who Gwen wants to spend time with. Gwen loved Ryan’s stage presence and overall style and she loved the power in Beth’s voice despite it sometimes being a bit much. Another stolen contestant bites the dust, but the right winner was picked.
Winner: Ryan Sill
Contestants: (Team Pharrell) Jean Kelley vs. Menlik Zergabachew
Songs: “Chandelier” (Jean) – “Could You Be Loved” (Menlik)
Thoughts: In this battle of the former Team Gwen members, Gwen said it was super weird to watch she loved how Jean made it her own and loved the theater of it while Menlik has shown a lot of growth and saw things tonight she didn’t know he had. Adam said Jean singing is a combination of deep anixty and relief and Menlik has a lot of power and they’re both special. Blake called Jean dramatic but in a good way but loved Menlik and everything about his voice/stage presence. Pharrell said Jean’s was like Broadway play while Menlik was like in his own world and he wasn’t sure who do go with because of the two different directions they are.
Winner: Jean Kelley
Contestants: (Team Adam) Blessing Offor vs. Chris Jamison
Songs: “Your Body is a Wonderland” (Blessing) – “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” (Chris)
Thoughts: Blake said that Chris sang the crap out of it while he said there’s something special about Blessing. Former coach Pharrell said that he commends Blessing on his performance but gave it to Chris because he didn’t expect that performance. Gwen said that she almost didn’t recognize Blessing’s song choice and it blew her away while Chris singing a classic beyond his years was so great to her. Adam also commented on that and added that they were equally matched and loves them both.
Winner: Chris Jamison
A little quick recap would show that Adam completed his team by picking Matt McAndrew over Rebekah Samarin.
Contestants: (Team Blake) Grant Ganzer vs. Reagan James
Songs: “Apologize” (Grant) – “Hit ‘Em Up Style” (Reagan)
Thoughts: Pharrell thought Grant had a very special moment with a note in the song but his choice was Reagan. Gwen agreed adding that Grant had a special way of smoothly transitioning the notes and she couldn’t believe Reagan’s power for his voice. Adam said that Grant reminds him of him because he has a passion for music and is normal while Reagan freaks him out with her confidence. Blake said Grant’s nerves got to him but he has two different voices and not sure what artist he wants to be while Reagan can take whatever song she wants and do her thing.
Winner: Reagan James
Contestants: (Team Gwen) Anita Antoinette vs. Craig Wayne Boyd
Songs: “Rude” (Anita) – “Can’t You See” (Craig)
Thoughts: Adam said he felt less of a man after hearing him sing that song but couldn’t decide who did it better. Former coach Blake told Craig that he was hotter than ever both psychically and vocally and that Anita did a great job performing. Pharrell told Anita she just kept jabbing us with unexpected notes and wishes he had both on his team. Gwen loved how Craig commanded the audience while everything Anita did was right on and shocking to her.
Winner: Anita Antoinette
It didn’t take long for Blake to press his steal button for Craig and brought him back to his team therefore completing his team.
