After Team Adam and Team Blake set the bar high on Monday night, it was time to hear from Team Gwen and Team Pharrell in The Voice live playoff’s on Tuesday night (November 11). The night saw the team members taking on some challenging songs picked by their coaches and pretty much all of the delivered.
After Pharrell kicked off the show with a performance of his song “Hunter,” the performances got started. Here’s a look at how they did.
Who: Ryan Sill (Team Gwen)
Song: “I Lived”
Thoughts: Adam kicked it off by saying it was great and loved his pitch and added that he’s noticed his better performance skills that Gwen has taught him. Blake noted that it seemed like he was singing to someone on anther tea. Pharrell said that he saw the improvement and could tell how much he wanted it tonight. Gwen said she felt emotional with how confident he is and how great his voice is.
Who: Jean Kelley (Team Pharrell)
Song: “Piano in the Dark”
Thoughts: Former coach Gwen said that she’s so dramatic and it’s a lot to take in because it’s just so amazing and she was getting lost in the drama of the song. Adam agreed that sometimes the drama was a bit much sometimes and there should be more of a balance between vocals and emotion. Pharrell said this is just the beginning of Jean.
Who: Elyjuh Rene (Team Pharrell)
Thoughts: Gwen loved how in control of his body and vocals he was saying it was “mindblowing.” Adam was pretty speechless and said he couldn’t believe what he just saw up there it was that incredible. Blake said he just has the perfect pitch for every note and called him the one to beat on Pharrell’s team. Pharrell added that he’s super proud of him because he showed everyone who he is.
Who: Bryana Salaz (Team Gwen)
Thoughts: Adam complimented her for being up there at her age but also said that he’s glad she’s with Gwen because they’re perfect together. Blake said he felt they saw her get better throughout the performance starting nervous and getting more strong throughout. Pharrell said it’s amazing to see how she’s gotten better from where she started to now. Gwen also mentioned the improvement and loved the emotion she put into the song.
Who: Luke Wade (Team Pharrell)
Song: “Let’s Get It On”
Thoughts: Gwen said she got so lost in the moment and loved the tone of his voice. Adam said the song is a tough one to sing and complimented him for doing his own thing. Pharrell was super proud of him as well.
Who: Anita Antoinette (Team Gwen)
Song: “All About That Bass”
Thoughts: Adam was shocked that was her and loves her style of music and everything. Pharrell mentioned he’s so proud of her and could feel how inspired and excited she was up there. Gwen said it was a great song and is one of the few in the competition that can really pull off this style and personality.
Who: Danica Shirey (Team Pharrell)
Song: “Help Me”
Thoughts: Gwen was happy she performed that song and brought that song to a new generation and did such a great job with it. Adam said there’s nobody like her and turned a classic into something modern. Blake described it as a “clinic for singers” because it was that perfect, even though he never heard that song before. Pharrell was so happy she believed in herself and showed the world what she can do.
Who: Sugar Joans (Team Pharrell)
Song: “I Say a Little Prayer”
Thoughts: Former coach Gwen said that song was perfect for her and said it was her moment and everything came together for her this performance. Pharrell was so proud of her and felt every moment up there during the performance.
Who: Ricky Manning (Team Gwen)
Song: “Lay Me Down”
Thoughts: Adam said the coolest thing about him is that he has made him believe in him as an artist throughout each performance he’s done calling him most improved. Former coach Pharrell could tell how much he wants it and it’s amazing to see how much he has grown from his first performance. Gwen added that he did everything she wanted and loved how he put his personality into it.
Who: Taylor John Williams (Team Gwen)
Song: “Stuck in the Middle with You”
Thoughts: Adam said it didn’t seem like a song he would sing but it was the right choice and he made it work showing him sides he’s never seen before this performance. Gwen and Pharrell said they loved the blues thing in his voice and that he did amazing.
